Tales From Masnavi
It is not only the modern societies who are aware of the
power of negative speech. Our past saints were also very conscious about this.
One of the stories in Hazrat Jalaluddin Rumi's Masnavi has a meaningful speech.
A village madrasah. The master of madrasah had a good health
and less infected by disease. He lived beside the madrasah and went there
regularly. So the students also had to come to madrasah regularly. As the
master was less affected by any disease so there was no additional or sudden
leave in madrasah. Everything was going well. But regular classes became a
boring matter for some students.
One day a leader
among the students made a plan with them. According to leader's advice,
the students started working the next day.
Like every day the master entered the madrasha. after some time, a student
said, 'Assalamu alaikum mastarji! Are you well? How do you feel!’ Hearing this masterji rebuked him and told him to prepare his lesson. Then another student
came. The second student also greeted him saying, ‘How do you feel teacher! Is
your health good?’ Masterji rebuked him too and told him to make lesson. But in
the mean time he disturbed a little bit. Then the third student also greeted him and said, “Masterji! Do you have a fever? Your eyes look redish!” Master also
rebuked him too. But seeing the behavior of the students, he was getting excited with
anger inside. And due to anger he
started feeling a little sick. He ordered the students to make their lesson. Then he came back to home. When he left, the student leader told the students to read
even louder.
The most annoying thing to the sick people is the noise.
Their master also became annoyed with their sound. Then he told them to leave
the madrasa for that day. The students were also expecting these. They left
the school with joy, went to the field and started to play. Their plan was
succeeded.
Now think, with the power of negative speech, if a few
students can make their healthy teacher ill, then how bad it will be, when a
wise person do the same? Think about it!
